Advancement Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Green & Gold Annual Fund, and what does it support?
The Green & Gold Annual Fund is Holyoke Catholic High School's annual giving program and the only other significant source of income after tuition. The Green & Gold Annual Fund is meant to remind us of our experience with Holyoke Catholic. Those days, when we were in classes or watching sporting events from the sidelines, while our children, grandchildren, or friends were proudly wearing the Green and Gold! Holyoke Catholic High School is, and has always been, a place of nurturing, growing, caring and learning - all while wearing the Green & Gold!

This Fund was established to provide a steady stream of income to the school. The campaign runs concurrently with the school's fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. It is the most important source of unrestricted funds available to the school. Gifts to the campaign are used immediately to meet the school's most pressing needs and opportunities, including retention of the talented teachers who guide our students.

Doesn't tuition cover the cost of a Holyoke Catholic education?
No. In fact, tuition only covers only a portion of the full-cost of educating each HCHS student. In fiscal year 2008, the actual cost of educating one student at Catholic was more than $10,500, while tuition for one child was $6,600. Consequently, we count on other ways to help make up the difference ... your support of the Green & Gold Annual Fund is an important part of bridging that gap.

Can I make a gift in memory or in honor of someone?
Tribute and/or memorial gifts are a wonderful way to remember someone who has had a special connection to the school. It's a great way to remember your favorite faculty member, a mentor, a coach or a friend. When you make your gift indicate whom the gift honors and where you would like us to mail a note notifying the person about the tribute gift. No gift amount will be mentioned.

Who can take advantage of matching gifts?
If you or your spouse work for a matching gift company, you may be able to double or even triple the impact of your gift to HCHS. Many companies will match an employee's, retirees and spouses gift. Does yours? Check with your Human Resources Department to take advantage of this important enhancement of your philanthropic effort!

If your gift is matched, you receive recognition for the amount of the match. For example, a $500 personal gift matched 1:1 by your company would qualify you as a member of the Father John J. Mara Society. Be sure to take advantage of your company's generosity. It benefits HCHS and you!
